Privacy policy

We count visits to make the site better. We do not sell your data.

Who we are

Only Beans (onlybeans.in) is a curated index of Indian specialty coffee. This policy explains what information the site collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. It covers this website only.

What we collect

You do not need an account to use Only Beans, and the site has no sign-up, comment or contact forms. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or payment details.

We do collect basic usage information, through our analytics provider (PostHog):

• the pages you view, including which coffees, categories, bundles and brewing guides you open;
• what you type into the search box, how many results it returned, and the filters, groupings and page numbers you use;
• interactions with the brewing animations, and clicks on links to a roaster's site;
• the answers you choose in the package quiz (such as brew method, roast and flavour preferences), and whether you use the history and surprise tools;
• the page that sent you here, your browser and device type, screen size, and an approximate location (such as your city) worked out from your IP address;
• a randomly generated identifier, stored in your browser, that lets us tell a returning visit from a new one. It is not your name and is not linked to your identity.

We have switched off automatic click and keystroke capture and session recording. We do not record what you do on a page beyond the events listed above.

Cookies and local storage

The analytics identifier above is kept in a cookie and in your browser's local storage. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies, and we do not set any other cookies of our own.

If you use the coffee history tool on our personalised packages page, the list of coffees you add is saved in your browser's local storage under the name ob_history. It stays on your device, we never receive it, and you can clear it from that page or by clearing your browser data.

Do Not Track

If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, our analytics does not record your visit. You can also block analytics with a content blocker or by clearing site data in your browser. The site works the same either way.

Why we collect it

• to see which coffees and guides people find useful, so we can improve what we show;
• to find and fix things that are broken or confusing;
• to keep the site secure and running smoothly.

Who else handles your data

• PostHog receives the analytics events described above. We use its US cloud, so that data is processed in the United States.
• Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site. Like any host, it sees your IP address and request details and keeps technical logs for security and performance.
• Google Fonts serves our typefaces, so your browser contacts Google when a page loads, which shares your IP address and browser details with Google.
• Roasters' servers deliver the product photos you see, so they can see your IP address when a photo loads. If you follow a link to a roaster's own site, that site has its own privacy policy and we are not responsible for it.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep analytics data only for as long as it is useful for understanding how the site is used, and we delete or anonymise it after that.

Your choices and rights

Under applicable Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to erase it, and to withdraw any consent you have given. Because we do not know who you are, we may ask for your browser's analytics identifier to find your records. You can also raise a grievance with us, and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

Only Beans is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

If we start taking orders

Today the site does not take orders or payments. If that changes, we will update this policy, and our refund and return policy, before it does.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
